In his many appearances in the MCU's Infinity Saga, Captain America exhibited many impressive displays of power. Since his introduction in Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers played an integral role in the MCU up until the release of Avengers: Endgame. In that eight-year-long, 11-movie stretch, Captain America provided the MCU with incredible leadership, righteous morality, and several awe-inspiring feats of strength.
After Steve Rogers' Captain America retirement in Endgame, the mantle of the Star Spangled Man was passed down to Sam Wilson. Despite Sam only showcasing a few feats of power in his one Captain America appearance in Falcon and the WinterSoldier episode 6, the legacy hero will likely continue that into Phases 5 and 6 with Captain America: Brave New World and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, when specifically concerning Steve Rogers' Captain America, here are the 10 most impressive displays of power the Avengers' leader showed throughout his MCU tenure.
10 Captain America Split A Log With His Bare Hands In Age Of Ultron
Coming in at number 10 on the list is Captain America splitting a log with his bare hands in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The scene has often been revisited over the years since Age of Ultron's release and stayed in the circle of online Captain America discourse. In the scene, Captain America and Iron Man are arguing over how best to deal with Ultron and why Wanda Maximoff's visions did not mess with Steve's mind as much. At the end of the argument, Steve's anger comes out, with Captain America ripping a log in half in a feat of strength no regular human could commit.
9 Hijacking The SHIELD Vessel In The Winter Soldier’s Opening
One of the best action sequences containing Captain America in the MCU is the opening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the film's opening action sequence, Captain America retakes a SHIELD vessel, the Lemurian Star, from a group of pirates led by Batroc the Leaper. Cap does this almost single-handedly at first, with the sequence following the hero dispatching multiple armed assailants. The scene includes some of Captain America's most powerful hand-to-hand moments in the MCU, from kicking pirates back six or seven feet with strength no mere soldier would be able to accomplish.
The scene even begins with an insanely strong power move from Cap. When jumping out of the Quinjet, Cap jumps from the sky without a parachute, much to the surprise of SHIELD's Strike team. Cap lands in the water below from a height that would have killed a regular human, proving just how powerful Cap is not only in terms of physical strength but also durability.
8 Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Elevator Fight
One of the other best action sequences in the Captain America trilogy also comes in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Midway through the movie, Cap is leaving the Triskelion, SHIELD's headquarters. This leads to the now-iconic elevator fight, in which Captain America is attacked by over 10 SHIELD agents wielding electric batons and magnetic handcuffs. Amazingly, Steve is able to power through the pull of the magnetic handcuffs, withstand multiple shocks with an electric baton, and take down every single assailant in the elevator in such a confined space. Like the liberation of the Lemurian Star, the elevator fight is one of Steve’s most impressive fight scenes.
7 Stalling Ultron In Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Another of Captain America's most impressive power displays in a one-on-one scenario is when Steve stalled Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron's second act. Before the Battle of Sokovia, the Avengers travel to Seoul in South Korea to obtain Ultron's vibranium body which eventually becomes Vision. While Hawkeye and Black Widow attempt to find how Ultron's body is being transported, Steve is required to stall Ultron by facing him in combat. Despite Ultron's overwhelming power, Steve holds his ground long enough for the Avengers to obtain Vision's body which is incredibly impressive given Ultron was only ultimately defeated using the combined power of Thor, Iron Man, and Vision.
6 Captain America Held His Own Against The Avengers & Iron Man In Civil War
Two of Captain America's best MCU fight scenes are found in the third film in the trilogy, Captain America: Civil War. The fight scene against the other Avengers at the airport in Germany and the final fight against Iron Man are the two in question, with Cap displaying impressive feats of power in both. Beginning with the former, Cap holds his own against heroes significantly more powerful than him. One of these is Spider-Man, who attempts to take down Cap on the orders of Iron Man. Cap instead uses his experience to best Spider-Man who is one of the more powerful characters in Marvel's history.
Later in the film, Cap goes up against Iron Man to stop the latter from killing Bucky Barnes. Iron Man's suit and weaponry make him more powerful than Captain America, yet Steve Rogers manages to defeat Iron Man in the end. After saving Bucky's life, Captain America subdues Iron Man and uses his shield to smash the latter's arc reactor, effectively ending the fight. Facing off against Avengers with higher power levels than him is not easy, yet Captain America rises to the challenge on multiple occasions in Captain America: Civil War.
5 Facing Thor In The Avengers
That said, one of the Avengers missing from Captain America: Civil War was Thor. Thor was off-world searching for the Infinity Stones during this film, meaning he did not face off against his comrades. However, this was showcased in The Avengers when Thor and Iron Man came to blows. Eventually, Captain America calmed the fight down until Thor turned on him. Thor brought the full might of his incredible power and Mjölnir down on Captain America's shield at the end of the fight. Despite Thor being one of the MCU's strongest Avengers, Cap withstood the attack and ended the infighting between heroes.
4 Destroying The Quinjet In Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Despite not matching up to withstanding an attack from Thor in terms of raw, physical strength, Captain America destroying the Quinjet in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the character's most impressive displays of power. After the aforementioned elevator fight, Captain America is riding away from the Triskelion on his motorcycle when a SHIELD Quinjet attempts to stop him from leaving. This fight not only highlights Captain America's strength but his agility too.
After flipping off his motorcycle, Cap uses his shield to destroy the Quinjet's fore engines, something that would require a lot of strength to do. Cap holds on to the vehicle using only his shield after the pilot tries to shake him off. As the Quinjet crashes to the ground due to Cap destroying the vehicle's aft engines, the hero lands with his shield in hand, escaping the clutches of HYDRA.
3 Holding Back The Helicopter In Captain America: Civil War
Captain America taking down the Quinjet is not the only time the hero has showcased an incredible display of power in the MCU involving a vehicle. In Captain America: Civil War, Bucky attempts to escape the CIA building in Bucharest by hijacking a helicopter on the roof. In order to save his friend from HYDRA's mind control, Captain America grabs the helicopter and stops it from taking off using only one arm. This attempt would tear a regular human in half and proves just how strong Captain America can be when fighting for what he believes in.
2 Stopping Thanos In Avengers: Infinity War
Captain America’s second most impressive display of power in the MCU comes in Avengers: Infinity War. While most of Infinity War focused on Thanos' rivalry with Iron Man, the Mad Titan came up against Captain America in one brief scene at the end of the film. After dispatching the other Avengers with ease, Thanos comes face to face with Cap. Cap manages to get a few good hits in on the Titan, before grabbing his hand wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos' power is without equal in the MCU besides Thor and Captain Marvel, yet Captain America managed to hold back his strength for only a brief moment.
The moment is one of the best in the film and highlights the sheer bravery, courage, and strength of Steve Rogers. The brief moment even resonates with Thanos himself, with Josh Brolin portraying a passing moment of respect for Steve. Of course, the true confrontation between Thanos and Captain America comes in Infinity War's sequel...
1 Lifting Mjolnir In Avengers: Endgame
The sequel in question, Avengers: Endgame, contains the single most impressive feat of power from Steve Rogers' Captain America in the entire MCU: the lifting of Mjolnir. In the film's third act, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor face down Thanos on his return to Earth. After the latter two Avengers are temporarily beaten by Thanos, Captain America faces the Mad Titan alone once more. However, this time, Captain America lifts the legendary hammer of Thor of which only two others have proven worthy in the entire MCU.
This alone is enough to rank as the most impressive display of power from Cap in the MCU, but it is the ensuing fight with Thanos that also proves Steve's capabilities. Besides Captain Marvel, Captain America comes closest to defeating Thanos with Mjolnir in hand in the entire film. This proves the best aspects about Steve Rogers, all while exemplifying the incredible feats of strength and displays of power Captain America is capable of.
