Carl Benz
There were many attempts to build cars. starting from a steam engine, up to the gas-powered car that is still popular. Although the electric car is seeing a big return since Thomas Edison tinkered with large batteries AKA electric cars in the early 1900’s.
Exactly who invented the automobile is a matter of opinion. If we had to give credit to one inventor, it would probably be Karl Benz from Germany. Many suggest that he created the first true automobile in 1885/1886 written by loc.gov

Henry Ford began the first mass production of cars on an assembly line. How were they supposed to get rid of all those broken down cars? That is when the SCRAP METAL industry began.
Did anyone invent scrapping cars? Not really. It was a residual from the car industry. The scrap car movement came to pass due to necessity – the mother of invention. At first, they tried to crush old cars with big hammers and dump these piles of crushed steel in large dumping grounds.

Cars Crushed Into Cubes (Blue Nissan, Red Volvo, Green Honda)
NO REGULATION
Years ago there were so many open fields where cars were dumped and there were no regulations in place. Junk yards now have to pay top dollar for their scrap yards. Not many yards save parts anymore to repair cars. They can’t afford to leave cars sitting around taking up space anymore. At some point, there were just too many junk cars around. They had to do something about these mounting junk cars. They had to process these cars and start to recycle the steel? That is how the recycling industry began. It is hard to find the first recycling plant because scrapping cars is not a popular bit of conversation.

It as not as important as a break though in medicine or science. “Scrapping cars” is one of life’s necessities. As the years went by, more recycling companies started popping up. Today, scrap car recycling is big business. Tons of steel go through the yards every day. Even though the biggest dumping yard for cars is believed the be in the desert of North Africa at one of those oil baron countries, the biggest scrap processing plant in the world is in England.
