Following the success of Seth Rollins’ appearance, the next major main roster star to compete on NXT may have been revealed.
This past week’s NXT saw the show’s largest viewership since 2021, with the World Heavyweight Championship main event between Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker in particular drawing a massive boost to the show’s TV numbers.
Unsurprisingly, it seems as if WWE is looking to continue this momentum by plucking other major main roster stars and sending them to Tuesday nights.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that Ronda Rousey could be next in line for a marquee match in NXT, perhaps alongside her tag team partner Shayna Baszler.
Meltzer wrote:
There are plans for more major stars to work NXT like Rollins did this week.
One name that was at least talked about was Rousey, or perhaps even having Rousey & Baszler defend the women’s tag titles there.
But the goal is to use the main roster stars to increase the ratings, and the Rollins experiment was a huge success, so when something works in wrestling the idea is that you usually follow up on it.
WWE Women’s Tag Champions Rousey and Baszler take on NXT Women’s Tag Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre on tonight’s June 23 SmackDown in a unification match for both titles.
The idea of integration between NXT and the main roster was one openly discussed by WWE CEO Nick Khan recently, with the company hoping to build WWE’s developmental show into a viable third brand once again.
As well as Rollins, there have been plenty other main roster crossovers on Tuesday nights recently with Dana Brooke, Mustafa Ali, Baron Corbin and Los Lotharios all being heavily involved in major storylines at present.
