Activision has confirmed the release date of the new Call of Duty title during the Black Ops 6 Direct, and it's a bit earlier than usual.

We finally got our first look at Black Ops 6, the next title in the iconic Call of Duty franchise, during the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct on Sunday, with Activision and Xbox giving players an overview of the game's new features as well as confirming the release date. Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 6 has a confirmed release date of Friday, October 25, which is around two weeks earlier than the MW3 release date (November 10, 2023), as well as the last Black Ops title, Black Ops Cold War (November 13, 2020).

And the good news keeps on coming because details about the game's campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes have also been revealed! Here's all you need to know.

Black Ops 6: campaign

The Black Ops 6 Direct was, thankfully, heavy on the detail, with the live stream revealing that the upcoming Call of Duty title will feature a new single-player campaign that's set in the 1990s, just after the events of Black Ops 2, which will be focused around a spy thriller narrative and will feature locations like Russia, the Middle East, Southern Europe, and the US, with iconic characters Frank Woods and Russel Adler making their returns. And, just as the Black Ops 6 live-action trailer suggested, the story will centre around the upheaval of global politics during the Cold War, with players looking to uncover an underlying government conspiracy.

Black Ops 6: multiplayer

As well as introducing 16 new maps, including 12 core 6v6 maps and four Strike maps that can be played as 2v2 or 6v6, re-introducing Classic Prestige and Theatre Mode, and the ability to move and remove HUD elements, Treyarch is also introducing huge gameplay changes, with the new omnidirectional movement feature set to allow players to move like John Wick on an energy drink diet.

The new movement feature allows players to move, sprint, slide, and dive in any direction, and that, combined with the new Supine Prone which allows rotation while prone, will redefine movement across all modes, so say Treyarch.

Black Ops 6: Zombies

Last but not least, round-based Zombies is back for Black Ops 6! Once again, players will be able to face increasingly difficult waves of zombies in the fan-favourite mode, with two brand-new maps coming to the mode at launch – Liberty Falls and Terminus – which will feature powerful weapons, upgrades, enemies, and a whole new batch of secrets for players to discover.

After the patched-together, lightweight disappointment that was MW3, Black Ops 6, which also happens to be the first game fully handled by Microsoft following the completion of the $69billion Microsoft Activision Deal, sounds like a potential return to form. But the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.
