Mark Zuckerberg has told the families of social media abuse victims that he is “sorry for everything they’ve gone through” during a dramatic hearing in Washington.

The Meta chief executive was cajoled into making the statement during heated exchanges in Congress in which he and other social media chiefs were accused of having “blood on their hands”.

Zuckerberg and the heads of TikTok, Snap, Twitter/X and Discord were appearing in front of the US Senate judiciary committee, which is investigating child safety on the internet.
