Captain America: A look back at the man lost to time
Image
"Captain America is arguably the most renowned hero in the Marvel Universe, widely known as 'The Timeless Hero.' The character's legacy, traversing from the World War II era to his resurgence in contemporary times, is truly monumental in both the world of Marvel Comics and the comic book genre as a whole. Despite fluctuating or shifting timelines, his 80-year tenure has yielded many diverse interpretations."

Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Steve Rogers was initially a frail young man who, despite his physical limitations, was determined to serve his country. His courage and unwavering resolve led him to volunteer for a secret government experiment, the Super-Soldier Program, where he was injected with the Super-Soldier Serum. This serum transformed Rogers into the peak of human physical potential, making him Captain America, a symbol of hope and patriotism.

Engaging in relentless combat with his arch-nemesis, the Red Skull, Captain America...

“Not Hulk Smash but Hail Hydra”: The Secret Super Skrull Theory Exposes Harrison Ford’s Horrible Secret in Captain America: Brave New World
Image
Secret Invasion introduced audiences of the MCU to The Harvest, which had the Skrull going through the battlefield where Thanos fought he Avengers in Avengers: Endgame. Their objective was to collect DNA samples from all the enhanced beings that had spilled blood in the battle, be it Captain America, Captain Marvel, the Black Order, Black Panther, or Thor.

Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World | Disney

A theory on Reddit suggests that Captain America: Brave New World might carry over some plot points from Secret Invasion, specifically how Red Hulk was created. It is expected that the character will have a different origin story, and could reasonably be a Skrull agent, hearkening back to the ‘New World Order’ subtitle that was scrapped.

Loki Season 2 VFX Supervisor Christopher Townsend On God Loki, Miss Minutes, McDonald's, And More (Exclusive)
Image
VFX Supervisor Christopher Townsend counts a long list of MCU movies among his credits, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain Marvel, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Loki season 2 marked his first foray into streaming and, as we're sure you'll agree, it's one of Marvel Studios' most visually stunning projects out of all those we've seen on the big and small screens.

Last week, we were fortunate enough to sit down with the Emmy nominee ("Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie") to discuss his work on the God of Mischief's return to Disney+ last year.

He calls Loki "one of the highlights of my MCU career from a visual point of view" and we started at the end by asking about the already-iconic moment Loki transforms into God Loki.

How Did Chris Evans Achieve That Skinny Look As Steve Rogers In Marvel’s First Captain America Film?
Image
Chirs Evans’ skinny look in Captain America was crafted with a lot of effort ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Captain America is one of the oldest Avengers in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The iconic role was played by Chris Evans and the titular character required the actor to be in great physical shape, and Evans was up for the challenge to transform himself for the role.

In 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, fans saw Evans’ Steve Rogers as a small and skinny character, but his body doubled when injected with a serum, becoming Marvel’s Captain America. However, his before-serum look was crucial for the films to show how Captain America was transformed, thanks to the effects of the Super Soldier Serum.

The skinny and small Steve Rogers was obviously a good-hearted person with morals, making him an obvious choice to become Captain America. When...

Lisa Westcott, British Makeup Artist Who Won Oscar for ‘Les Misérables,’ Dies at 76
Image
Lisa Westcott, the British makeup artist who won an Oscar for her work on 2012’s Les Misérables, has died, her husband told The Hollywood Reporter. She was 76.

Westcott died July 30 at her home in Oxford with her husband, Jeremy Ancock, and her twin children, George Ancock and Harriette Rothwell, with her. She was a staunch advocate for crew workers’ rights and fought fiercely for them to be upheld over the years, her family said.

She shared the Oscar for best makeup and hairstyling with Julie Dartnell for their efforts on the musical’s film adaptation that starred Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway.

The pair were photographed accepting the prestigious prize from Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum 11 years ago, beaming as they posed for photos afterward.

Westcott also earned two consecutive Oscar nominations for Mrs Brown (1997), starring Judi Dench, Billy Connolly and Gerard Butler, and Shakespeare in Love (1998), with Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes,...

“So many Captain America scenes got deleted”: Chris Evans Saves a Family From an Alien and We Are Sad This Scene Got Deleted From The Avengers
Image
Chris Evans stole our hearts the moment he stepped into the frame as Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). It has been over a decade since the film was released but Captain America still holds a special place in the hearts of MCU fans. After The First Avenger, Chris Evans reprised his role in The Avengers (2012), which remains one of the most iconic films in Marvel’s cinematic history.

The Avengers (2012) | Marvel Studios

Steve Rogers had a prominent role in the film as he teamed up with the other Avengers to save the world from Loki and the Chitauri tribe. The Avengers worked in a team to defeat the threat but there is one adorable but deleted scene from the film which shows Chris Evans’ Captain America taking on a Chitauri all by himself to save a family trapped in the mess.

“Mom, you’ve gotta stop that”: Despite Being Voted the Sexiest Man Alive, Chris Evans’ Mom Can’t Tolerate One Criticism about His 6ft Marvel Superstar Son’s Body
Image
Remember the iconic moment when Chris Evans’ as Steve Rogers was first revealed as Captain America after receiving Erskine’s super-soldier serum? That moment is probably engraved into the memory of every Marvel fan as one of the most legendary feats of the MCU. Standing 6 feet tall with a chiseled physique and oozing charm, it wasn’t a surprise when People Magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive in 2022.

Despite the constant admiration and global recognition, there is one criticism that Evans has not been able to escape: the comparison of his height with other stars and some labeling him too short. Even though he stands 6 feet tall, Evans’ mother particularly despises this criticism about her son.

Deadpool & Wolverine Easter Egg May Have Hinted At Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU Return As Doctor Doom
Image
Deadpool and Wolverine is jam-packed with nods, references, and Easter eggs (maybe more than any previous superhero movie), and while quite a few couldn't be any more blatant, others are a little more subtle.

Now, one fan has noticed something that might just be foreshadowing the recent Sdcc announcement that Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as the villainous Doctor Doom.

This doesn't really count as a major reveal, but just in case, spoiler warning.

When Wade Wilson and Logan are captured by Pyro and taken to Cassandra Nova's lair, they are greeted by a number of different characters and vehicles from earlier Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox movies, including the Red Skull's ride from Captain America: The First Avenger.

The car looks practically identical - aside from one thing: Instead of the Hydra logo on the hood, it's Iron Man's symbol.

Everything We Know About Thunderbolts (Updated with Comic-Con info)
Image
Marvel had a rough year in 2023. Many of its properties underperformed, and they lost their big villain due to Jonathan Majors being fired. Looking forward to their upcoming slate, comic fans have been excited about some of the studio’s projects over the next few years. Will these films help Marvel regain control? The upcoming Thunderbolts film has been one that fanboys have been hoping to see since the MCU started. With some recent news about the property coming up, it seems like the right time to break down what we know about the production.

Who Are The Thunderbolts?

The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1997 in an issue of The Incredible Hulk. They seemed to be a new group of superheroes that had arrived on the scene and gained acclaim very quickly. The reader was informed that the group was actually a group of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.

Russo Brothers Talk Avengers Return And Doctor Doom Plans; Doomsday Seemingly Adds Another MCU Actor/Composer
Image
At this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios welcomed Joe and Anthony Russo back to the MCU by announcing them as the new directors of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Shortly after that memorable Hall H panel concluded, the Russo Brothers described Secret Wars as "the book that made us fall in love with comics." Now, they shared a lengthier statement about their return and the decision to cast Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

You’re the best damn fans in the world, and we’ve missed you.

When we made Avengers: Endgame we truly believed that it was the end of the road for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU Wolverine Is About to Be Permanently Connected to Eternals
Image
“You were an X-Man. You were the X-Man.” This line from Deadpool & Wolverine will likely become a classic among geek circles since it describes the importance of Hugh Jackman’s Logan, both to the Fox era of X-Men and to the brand as a whole. With that said, Deadpool & Wolverine was about the legacy of one specific Wolverine—or two, at any rate. And neither seems likely to be the Wolverine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Which makes an eye-popping easter egg that was sneaked into Saturday night’s San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel all the more shocking: Marvel is finding an in-canon reason to explain adamantium in “the sacred timeline,” and it has to do with one of the most controversial Marvel Studios films to date: 2021’s Eternals.

As revealed almost in passing during an exclusive clip from next year’s Captain America: Brave New World, President...

‘Thunderbolts’ First Footage Wows Comic Con as Florence Pugh and David Harbour Kick Ass in Marvel’s Villain Team Up
Image
Marvel’s newest super-team, the Thunderbolts, made their San Diego Comic-Con debut on Saturday via first-look footage — and a relatively tight-lipped cast — during the MCU panel.

The entire cast joined the Hall H stage with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, including David Harbour in costume as Red Guardian. But his colleagues didn’t get the memo. “Oh my god, you guys didn’t dress up?,” Harbour exclaimed. “Guys! Guys! I sent that email! We all said we were going to dress up because it was Comic-Con!” Harbour quickly left to change.

While info about the movie was kept to a minimum, some select nuggets included:

*Feige’s revelation that the group’s moniker isn’t related to Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, saying that sometimes comic book writers just use the same names.

*Of her character, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said, “Valentina is after power, control and, I would say, just generally she wants...

Marvel’s Kevin Feige Imagines a Comic Book Lover’s Dream Bonus Feature for Disney+
Image
It was a meeting of Marvel titans at San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel editor-in-chief C. B. Cebulski welcomed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige for a conversation about collecting and the ways comic books inspire films (and vice versa).

Cebulski spent part of the panel showing off famous comic book art, and pared them with the scenes they inspired in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them was the iconic cover to 2007’s Civil War No. 7, which showed Captain America blocking Iron Man’s beam with his shield, and the cover to the 1939 classic Captain America No. 1, in which Cap punches Adolph Hitler in the face. Both moments inspired moments in Captain America: Civil War and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Feige remarked that it’d be cool if Disney+ had a feature that would allow one to scroll through a movie, and then see the comic book art that inspired the shot.

Every Avengers Reference, Callback, And Easter Egg In Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine," so beware!

"Deadpool & Wolverine" finally ushers in the Fox universe of Marvel movies into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it offers a bit of a love letter to those early big screen adaptations of X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other comics turned into blockbusters with varying degrees of success. But since this is the first time Wade Wilson and Wolverine are entering the MCU, there are also plenty of Avengers Easter eggs and references to be found. While many of them are pretty obvious, especially those that Wade calls out directly with his ongoing meta-commentary, many of them can be hard to spot. But don't worry, we've got you covered.

From Tony Stark's office, where Deadpool is heartbreakingly turned away from joining the Avengers roster, to the garbage heap that is The Void from Marvel's "Loki" TV series and beyond, we've...

“That’s not Captain America, that’s Steve Rogers”: What Chris Evans Did After Thanos Beat up Iron Man and Thor Gets Overlooked a Lot After Rdj’s Endgame Sacrifice
Image
Being a hero means embodying the courage to battle, defend, and rise unwaveringly against even the most formidable adversary. It also signifies putting one’s life at risk, again and again, until the battle is won or die trying. And in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this could not hold more true for Chris Evans’ character, Captain America.

Despite his zeal and courage, the character’s one daring act in Avengers: Endgame is often overlooked in light of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man’s sacrifice in the film.

Upcoming Sci-Fi Sequels We Can't Wait To See In Theaters
Image
Like horror, science fiction lends itself well to serialization. Fans of the genre love the chance to explore fantastical worlds far from our own, and once storytellers have developed a brand-new universe, those fans love having a reason to come back. From "Star Trek" to "Star Wars" (which are quite similar), from "The Terminator" to "The Thing," sci-fi franchises can spawn from anything given a strong enough premise.

Moviemaking takes time, though, and we also live in a world where projects are announced many years in advance. This can all make it frustrating to be a fan of sci-fi, often having to wait years to be able to return to a series that you love, even though new installments are constantly dangled over your head. While we're waiting for the next great sci-fi original to spark a new franchise, we've rounded up some of the sci-fi sequels that we simply...

Underrated Captain America Director Joe Johnston Deserves More Respect
Image
Joe Johnston’s 1991 superhero movie The Rocketeer begins in the usual way, with orange opening credits against a black screen. Only the slight tinkling of piano hints at something greater, little notes of inspiration under the art deco script on display. Sure enough, after the title reveal, the score pauses. The black screen is revealed to actually be the doors of a hangar bay, and the strings in James Horner’s score rise to a crescendo. They are announcing the hopes hanging on the yellow biplane that emerges.

A warm, confident scene of pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) proving to his mechanic Peevey (Alan Arkin) and their pals that he’s got what it takes to win a race is an odd way to open a superhero movie, even one of the pulp-inspired films that Hollywood cranked out after Batman hit it big in 1989. By the end of The Rocketeer,...

“Marvel didn’t think it worked”: Chris Evans’ Jawline Posed a Serious Threat to ‘The Avengers’ That Made the Studio Change 1 Iconic Captain America Detail

The acting prowess of Chris Evans is known to many, as is his string of hit movies. However, in this list, his portrayal of Steve Rogers in the MCU’s Captain America stands the tallest. Chris Evans' Ears And Chin Posed Some Costume Challenges For Captain America's Avengers Helmet
Image
Even going back to the 1940s, Captain America always had one of the silliest costumes in superherodom. Decked out in the colors and symbols of the American flag, and outfitted with a shield that looks like a stubborn decal left over from a model airplane, Captain America has always projected a form of patriotic tackiness that reminds one of overheated Fourth of July picnics, mosquito bites, and stale hot dog buns. Captain America was popular enough to survive the 1940s, however, and remains popular to this day.

Indeed, one must admire Marvel Studios for taking a wet blanket character like Captain America and selling him to audiences as something exciting and dynamic. The version of the character played by Chris Evans has, as of this writing, appeared in nine of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many now like him again.

One of the sillier aspects of Captain America,...

“Which world was better? Sixty years ago or now?”: Original Plan for Captain America: The First Avenger Was So Bad Even Chris Evans Might’ve Said No

Captain America: The First Avenger was a period piece above everything else. The action exclusively took place in the 1940s, at the height of the Second World War. The film was a blending of genres, fusing superheroes with a war film aesthetic, a formula that Marvel only perfected with its later films.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for pushing its boundaries every now and then. Being under Disney’s umbrella can be quite complicated for this effect; however, they have managed to find loopholes to help them through it. Some experiments when it comes to storytelling and thematics haven’t really worked for the franchise in the past few years. When Marvel Studios enlisted the Russo Brothers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, many fans understandably questioned whether the filmmakers behind You, Me and Dupree were the right team for the job.

Chris Evans’ Captain America is kind of the moral compass of the Avengers team, whose past was explored in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. However, there were quite a few things that bothered the fans, like how Steve Rogers became accustomed to the new world, and a bigger question than that was whether he was virg*n. A deleted scene explained how Steve got used to the modern world, and the doubt about his virgin*ty was cleared a decade later by the movie’s writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Scroll below for the deets.

In the first movie, Steve is a skinny person who lacks the physique of a soldier, but his resolution and determination surpass everyone else’s. Thus, he was chosen to be given the super soldier serum and transformed physically.

“Batman Begins isn’t a superhero movie”: Christian Bale’s Batman Turns 19 and Both Kevin Feige and James Gunn Can Take One Learning From Christopher Nolan’s Masterpiece
Image
In the film industry, there is perhaps no other actor who is more dedicated and talented than Christian Bale. He is the last of the stars, who would go to any extent to fully immerse themselves in the roles they play, without worrying about the impact it would have on their health. Some of his most iconic projects would be American Psycho, The Machinist, Ford v Ferrari, and many more.

But the one film that elevates his stardom from the rest would be Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Bale’s collaboration with Christopher Nolan in the trilogy featured an impeccable performance from the actor.

However, it was not the acting that hooked the audience because Nolan decided to develop the character of Bruce Wayne. This idea is something that adds to the richness of the lore and...

“What happened to the muscles but still handsome”: Chris Evans Looks Nothing Like Captain America Years After His Marvel Retirement
Image
Chris Evans retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for good after Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Yet, his charismatic portrayal of Captain America continues to create ripples among the fandom, particularly the ‘spectacular’ physique he built up for the role. Undergoing an extensive workout regimen along with 12-14 hours of daily shoots, the actor’s physical transformation is one of the best Hollywood has ever witnessed.

Chris Evans’ iconic scene in Captain America: Civil War

But one look at him now makes it hard to believe he is the same actor who showed off his bicep bulge while dragging a helicopter in Captain America: Civil War. Even fans are shocked to see how much weight Evans has lost since his Marvel retirement.

Idris Elba in Hijack (2023)
Toby Jones, Lisa Vicari, Christiane Paul Join Idris Elba For Hijack Season 2
Idris Elba in Hijack (2023)
Fans of the AppleTV+ series Hijack have been forced to endure a long wait for the second season of the popular thriller.

The bad news is that they'll need to wait at least a few more months, as filming for Hijack Season 2 is currently underway in the UK.

The good news is that star Idris Elba will be joined by a top-tier supporting cast when the show eventually makes its way back to our screens.

Deadline reported today that three very talented stars are currently on set in London.

First off is Toby Jones, a British actor, who might he might be best known for his work in American period pieces, such as Frost/Nixon, My Week With Marilyn, and Infamous (in which he memorably portrayed Truman Capote).

While he's gained a reputation as an esteemed "actor's actor," Jones is no stranger to the world of action and green screens.

Early Versions Of Marvel's Avengers Didn't Have Loki As The Only Major Villain
Image
You probably know that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was the big bad of 2012's "The Avengers" and his role there is why he's still the defining villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not even Thanos can say he got his own TV series like Loki did! It's not just the God of Mischief being in the right place at the right time, though.

"Avengers" writer/director Joss Whedon overhauled Loki, turning the meek sad boy from 2011's "Thor" into a wickedly charismatic megalomaniac. Hiddleston took that change and ran with it, proving he can wield an evil grin as effectively as he can puppy dog eyes along the way. Every subsequent Loki appearance has been trying to meld the two characterizations; Loki's an evil bastard, but he does love his mum and big brother Thor (even if he loves himself a bit more).

Loki (really Hiddleston) holds the screen all on his own in "The Avengers.

It has been over five years since Avengers: Endgame was first released. Many chapters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have opened and closed since. However, there is no denying that a piece of their fans’ hearts went with the final minutes of the film. Many stories ended when the 2019 movie was released, and audiences were forced to say goodbye to several characters they grew up with.

While many’s fates were conclusive, including Tony’s and Natasha’s, others were left far more hazy and were explained in future projects. Image
Bob Yari’s startup mini-major Magenta Light Studios has found its first in-house film production in “Summerhouse,” a period drama set against the anxiety of the Vietnam War.

“Bombshell” and “Halloween” star Malcolm McDowell will lead the project with Jacob Ward, an up-and-comer who made his debut in Ray Romano’s 2022 film “Somewhere in Queens.” Ed Kaplan (“2 Graves in the Desert”) will write the script and direct, with Shelly Jonson as director of photography.

Production will begin in Connecticut this month. Moonstone Entertainment will represent the international sales, previewing for buyers out of Cannes’ Marche du Film.

“Summerhouse” follows college grad Ned Stern (Ward) awaiting his draft into the Vietnam War. “It’s not fun”: Og Oscar-Nominated Star from One of the Best Pre-Avengers Movies Has Openly Said He “Can’t stand 3D”
Image
Technological advancements have drastically affected the working of the entertainment industry, with CGI and 3D effects being used in pretty much every live-action project, be it movies or TV series. This especially includes films from major superhero franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has produced some of the most intense VFX projects like the Avengers saga.

Marvel’s heavily CGI-affected Avengers saga.

However, surprisingly enough, one Oscar-nominated actor from one of the best pre-Avengers films, who had one of the most prominent side roles in Captain America: The First Avenger, has openly admitted that he can’t stand 3D. This actor is none other than Stanley Tucci, who even seems to have claimed that he finds it humiliating to work with the same, let alone enjoy working with it!

“That’s enough of that”: You’ll Have a Newfound Respect for Hugo Weaving for Abandoning MCU Before Infinity War
Image
Before crafting the likes of Thanos and Killmonger, who are often considered some of the top Cbm villains, the MCU often struggled to get their villains right, which was apparent in their initial phases. However, the biggest exception during the cinematic giant’s early years was Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving, who did an impeccable job playing the Hydra head.

Unfortunately, despite having a blast playing the character, Weaving didn’t return to reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War and was replaced by The Walking Dead star Ross Marquand. Although The Matrix star has cited paycheck disputes as the reason for not returning in Infinity War and Endgame, economics doesn’t seem to be the lone reason behind his absence.

How Marvel Turned Chris Evans Into 'Skinny Steve' For Captain America: The First Avenger
Image
Before later movies characterized by their muddy CGI and digital collage of actors, the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually pulled off some cool filmmaking tricks with the help of special effects. Case in point: the puny, pre-serum version of Steve Rogers fans of the then-new series saw in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger." According to The Wrap, the movie achieved Steve's original look via a combination of strategies, and scenes set before his transformation into the Cap we know were actually shot three times.

In one version of the scene, Chris Evans would stand in place and deliver his lines. In another, a scrawnier stand-in — "Atonement" and "Merlin" actor Leander Deeny — would perform in his place. In a third variation, the scene was reportedly filmed without any actor. This gave the effects team tons of footage to work their magic on. While productions typically shoot out of order, The Wrap...

8 Of The Most Divisive Superhero Costume Reveals Of All-Time (Including James Gunn's Superman)
Image
A couple of days ago, DC Studios and James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as Superman. It's been a while since we've seen a superhero movie costume divide opinions to such a large degree, but it's certainly not the first time.

The Man of Steel isn't the first character to take centre stage in a splashy sneak peek meant to get fans excited. While that usually works, there are occasions when fans hate what they see. Others, meanwhile, are quick to defend what usually amounts to a complete overhaul which takes place during the transition from page to screen.

This isn't a list of the worst superhero movie costumes...just those that divided opinions when they were first shown off to the world (and sometimes continue to do so to this very day).

Jonathan Bailey Joined ‘Heartstopper’ Season 3 After Asking Producer to Cast Him, Calls Series ‘One of the Most Beautiful Gifts’
Image
Jonathan Bailey was so blown away by “Heartstopper” that he just knew he had to be on the show.

“Like so many people, I watched the first [season] and thought it was one of the biggest, most beautiful gifts to so many people, and I wish I had that growing up,” the “Fellow Travelers” and “Bridgerton” star told me at the Met Gala Monday night.

It was announced in late April that Bailey will make a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity crush of Charlie (Joe Locke). “I had a mutual friend who knows [executive producer Patrick Walters] and I just said, ‘If there’s anything I could do to help and be a part of that story,’” Bailey recalled.

He said that the series, based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name, “really has changed the way people could grow and communicate around who they are.

One Captain America Set Was Breaking Ankles Left And Right
Image
If there's any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that can stand on its own two legs as a complete story, it's "Captain America: The First Avenger." Well, excluding the prologue and the epilogue, which show the frozen Steve Rogers being discovered in the Arctic and then waking up in modern-day New York City, respectively. The prologue lets you know ahead of time that Cap's sacrifice in the third act won't be fatal, while the ending is pure sequel bait.

"Captain America" is definitely not the most monumental MCU movie, but it's one of the most enjoyable. The MCU clearly takes its cues from the blockbusters of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's youth — from "Star Wars" to "Raiders of the Lost Ark." "Captain America" is one of the few that feels like a pulpy, earnest Spielberg adventure movie. It makes sense since director Joe Johnston is budget Spielberg; he directed "Jurassic Park 3...
