Rio Olympics 2016: GB divers Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson miss out on medal as pool turns green
BRITAIN’S high-diving women were a bit off-colour – but not as much as the pool.
Going into the final round, Tonia Couch and teenage partner Lois Toulson had a chance of matching Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow’s bronze medal in their version of the 10m synchronised platform event.
But they fluffed their last dive and all the talk, in Britain at least, was why the water had changed from bright blue to murky green in 24 hours.
Officials were unable to provide an explanation, but there was speculation the levels of chlorine had dropped and allowed green algae to grow.
What was certain was that Britain’s medal tally did not increase.

When the North Korean pair made a mess of their last dive, the Brits had a glimmer of hope if they could nail their inward three and a half somersaults with tuck.
But both Couch and Toulson, 16, failed to execute and dropped behind Canada and the Koreans into fifth place.
China’s Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia comfortably retained the title Chen and previous partner Wang Hao had won in London. Malaysia took silver nand the Canadians bronze.
