Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Twilight #5!Captain America is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe, and one of his best skills is the ability to surround himself with those who also value heroism in an increasingly hopeless world, including and especially those Steve Rogers becomes romantically involved with. While Peggy Carter is the person who first comes to mind when considering Captain America’s partners who have proven to be heroes themselves, his new wife just proved the same in truly spectacular fashion.
In Avengers: Twilight #5 by Chip Zdarsky and Daniel Acuña, the Red Skull has finally revealed himself as the mastermind who’s secretly been running the United States under the guise of Stark Industries’ CEO, Kyle Jarvis. Wearing an Ultron-esque suit and rallying his brainwashed troops, the Red Skull storms the White House, kills the President, and threatens Washington, DC with a nuclear-level attack - and the only ones who can stop him are the future Avengers.
In this borderline cyber-dystopian future, the likes of Steve Rogers, Kamala Khan, and Thor were rallied by Luke Cage, who formed his own resistance to challenge the fascism brewing across the nation: the Defenders. The Defenders are an army of regular people who are willing to put their lives on the line to stop people like Red Skull. So, when Red Skull made his move against America, he targeted every hideout the Defenders had with the intention of killing all of them. However, his plans were foiled by one person: Rosa Rogers.
Rosa Rogers evacuated every Defenders hideout before Red Skull’s troops got there, saving a great number of lives in the process.
Rosa Rogers Proved Her Heroism BEFORE Saving the Defenders from Red Skull
Rosa Rogers was initially infuriated with Steve after he not only joined the Defenders resistance without telling her, but also retook the super-soldier serum to once again become Captain America. It wasn’t that she didn’t want Steve to be the hero he was born to be, it’s that he didn’t consult her about any of his decisions, despite the fact that he was putting her life at risk just as much as his own - more so, in fact, because (unlike Steve) Rosa doesn’t have super-soldier serum running through her veins.
Rosa is a doctor, so when Steve decided that they were essentially going to live underground with the Defenders, she put her skills to work. Rosa became the Defenders’ official head doctor, patching up those who put their lives on the line to fight fascism. However, when the Red Skull threw the war that was brewing in the shadows of the nation into the light, Rosa didn’t just save people’s lives after they were injured, she actively saved them from harm.
Captain America’s Wife, Rosa Rogers, Saved the Defenders AND the Avengers
Rosa was the one who led the evacuation of every Defenders safehouse. By completing this mission, Rosa gave these men and women the chance to join the Avengers in battle - a battle the Avengers might have been on the verge of losing. Having to deal with foot soldiers, armed missiles, and the superpowered Red Skull himself, was running the Avengers a bit thin. So, when the Defenders joined the fight (thanks to Rosa), the Avengers gained a small army of their own, which is when the tide began to turn in the heroes’ favor.
Rosa Rogers stepped up to be the head doctor of the Defenders resistance despite being thrown into the situation against her will or knowledge. She then led a wide-scale evacuation of multiple safehouses, and ultimately saved the Defenders and the Avengers. Indeed, Captain America’s new wife, Rosa Rogers, is truly a Steve Rogers-level hero.
