Miami Swim Week 2023—The Shows came out in full force, with an impressive weeklong lineup of more than 50 runway presentations—and 100 designers excited to show off their latest collections.
A handful of key trends emerged. Sparkles and sequins added shine to both swimwear and cover-ups, making the transition from day to night seamless. Swimsuits and bikini bottoms had some waist-high side cuts, showing off legs to the max. It was nice to see sustainability on the minds of many designers who opted to use fabrics from recycled fibers. Rainbow Bright would be proud with the use of vibrant colorful and pastel palettes. Different textures were abundant, making swimwear interesting and luxurious.
The use of mesh was also prevalent, adding that perfect peekaboo touch to any cover-up. Lastly, there’s no denying that the Barbie-core frenzy had some influence on not only the designs we saw come down the runway, but also with the hair and makeup. The overall aesthetic screamed glamour.
Although there were too many great shows to mention, standouts included Ema Savahl’s haute-couture romantic collection featuring beach cover-ups with statement embellishments. Amarotto Swimwear played with fringes and intricate netting, giving off a strong Western-influenced collection. Paola Estefania was all about the sparkles, with glittery swimsuits and billowy cover-ups, making the shift from the poolside cabana to the sizzling Miami nightlife dazzling.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, brand Maaji presented a collection inspired by the mystical territory of the jaguar. Bright solid colors, shimmery fabrics and textures were on show as well as more than 30 new animal, ombré and tropical motifs.
To close out the week of eye-catching runways, designer Alvin Valley returned to his hometown of Miami to launch his namesake brand’s Resort 2023 collection Sunkissed, which included swim, resort, lingerie and accessories. Inspired by travel and the chic destinations of St. Tropez, Hamptons and Palm Beach, the models were head-to-toe in Alvin Valley, accomplishing a coherent, beautiful vision. In true Alvin Valley style, each look had a mix of sophistication with a touch of edginess.
