WWE advertised SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey for last night’s Hell in a Cell Premium Live Event despite the UFC legend not appearing.
Rousey returned to WWE at this past January’s Royal Rumble and captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania: Backlash.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that while Rousey was promoted in the Chicago area, she had been pulled from the Hell in a Cell event.
Meltzer suggested that this was done to keep Rousey’s matches rare to build towards a title defense at next month’s WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view event.
While Natalya earned a title match against Rousey during last week’s SmackDown, WWE has not confirmed when the match will take place.
