The release date window for Rick and Morty Season 8 has been revealed, teasing a potential two-year-long wait for the hit Adult Swim series.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Adult Swim is currently targeting a 2025 return date for Rick and Morty Season 8. This comes after over a month since the adult-animated series had concluded its 10-episode seventh season. Should the next installment indeed arrive in 2025, this would be one of the longest waiting periods between the show’s seasons in a long while. For three consecutive years, Rick and Morty fans were treated to new season releases yearly since 2021’s Season 5.

Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden discuss how they felt after landing their dream jobs on Rick and Morty.

Prior to the Rick and Morty Season 7 finale, series regular Sarah Chalke, who voices the role of Beth Smith, previously gave an update regarding the production status of Rick and Morty Season 8, confirming the cast hasn’t started voice recording yet. "It's written, but we haven't read them yet, we just get them a little bit before," Chalke said. "You know, we get the scripts as we go, and it's always fun to kind of get to see what you're going to be doing. I have such a good time every recording. Whatever Beth or Space Beth is doing, I'm here for it."

The Future of Rick and Morty

In 2018, Adult Swim granted Rick and Morty a 70-episode renewal after three seasons, which guaranteed the show to last up to ten seasons, since each installment consisted of ten episodes. According to showrunner Scott Marder, they have already mapped out the fan-favorite series’ "full-10-season-saga," despite original co-creator Justin Roiland’s controversial dismissal. "I can’t tease a lot," he said. "I can tell you that we’ve already got a couple ideas for Season 10 that are already kind of pinned. There is a full plan for a full 10-season saga. So if people are on board with what we’ve been doing the past couple seasons, we’re intending to give them more of that. But there are certainly arcs and cool things and big surprises in store."
