The 1980s were a golden time for toys. Advertisers figured out that they could create half-hour commercials for toy lines and market them as children's entertainment. A small, posable action figure boom exploded with He-Man, She-Ra. redesigned G.I. Joes, and Thudercats flying off of shelves. And while Barbies, My Little Pony, and Rainbow Brite lit up cash registers, Cabbage Patch Dolls caused a nationwide craze. Toys were big business.

But with that golden stretch of greatness came some interesting trends in toymaking. The '80s also saw some of the grossest and weirdest toys to ever hit the marketplace. Mostly marketed to young boys, for a time these toys seemed to be trying to out-creep the previous bestsellers. Some weird and wild toys were made in this time, many of which are remembered fondly and none of which will likely ever be made again.
