Summary
- In Batman/Lobo , Batman defeats Lobo by using his intellect and hypnotizing him, showing that not every fight can be won through brute strength.
- Lobo's absurd healing factor makes him virtually invulnerable, but Batman has found unique ways to bring him down several times in the past.
- While he has had to blow up Lobo's head at least once, in this case, Batman resorts to a nonviolent solution, hypnotizing Lobo and forcing him to leave Earth when physical force proved ineffective at defeating him.
Not every fight can be won through pure brute strength, which is why Batman has famously come up with endless different contingency plans to break down the different characters he often interacts with, enemies and allies alike. One of the best examples of Batman's planning is when he permanently put down Lobo, despite the alien having an unstoppable healing factor.
During the events of Batman/Lobo – by Alan Grant, Simon Bisley, Bill Oakley, and Nathan Eyring – Lobo was hired by the Joker to kill Batman. This put Lobo on a path of destruction through Gotham City, during which he even shockingly killed Robin and Nightwing. Batman seemed completely unable to defeat Lobo, as his healing grants immunity to almost all forms of damage. Even detonating the Batmobile in Lobo's face and unleashing a mech version of the anti-Superman suit (piloted by Alfred Pennyworth) can't stop the villain for long.
Despite Lobo's massive advantage in physical confrontation, Batman managed to defeat Lobo in a battle of the minds– by hypnotizing him. Using a special gas and a very shiny disk, Batman was able to completely disable the Main Man, and make him leave Earth forever.

Lobo Cosplay Turns the Ultimate DC Antihero into the New Batman
Lobo and Batman are almost always on opposite sides of any given conflict, with a new cosplay merging Lobo and The Dark Knight into one character!
Batman Has To Resort To Mind Games To Beat Lobo
The Dark Knight Also Blew Up The Villain's Head (It Regenerated)
The character has virtually no vulnerabilities, and can instantly regenerate from any wound.
Lobo has one of the most absurd healing factors in comic books. The character has virtually no vulnerabilities, and can instantly regenerate from any wound. Lobo has often stated that no one makes him bleed his own blood, because one drop of his blood will regenerate into a brand-new person – making it, by his somewhat warped logic, someone else's blood. This has made stopping Lobo extremely difficult for his opponents throughout the years, but Batman has come up with several unique ways to bring him down.
During the events of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad, Lobo was brainwashed and used to attack the League. Batman resorted to blowing the Main Man's head up. Though this did not kill Lobo, or even slow him down for long, it forced him to regenerate with a new brain, one which had not been manipulated. In Batman/Lobo, Batman's solution also has to do with Lobo's brain – or more specifically, his mind. Rather than defeat Lobo in battle, Batman hypnotizes him, using the command: "Your mind is no longer your own."
Batman Hypnotizes Lobo Into Leaving Earth & Never Returning
Violence Isn't Always The Answer
When Lobo couldn't be stopped physically, Batman simply found other ways around it.
Batman is infamous for his contingency plans, and part of the reason for this is his ability to be flexible. When Lobo couldn't be stopped physically, Batman simply found other ways around it. Since Lobo has the advantage of absurd regeneration, which means killing him really isn't possible, Batman resorted to a nonviolent solution. This ingenuity was also best shown when Batman simply hypnotized Lobo into leaving Earth and never returning instead of trying to fight him.
