Megan Thee Stallion’s performance at Vice President Kamala Harris’ first presidential campaign rally turned up the heat. As the rapper coined the slogan Hotties for Harris at the Atlanta event, conservatives got fired up to the point of melting down.
The performance at the Georgia State Convocation Center looked nothing like her headlining set at State Farm Arena in the city earlier this month. Sure, she had her backing dancers and a setlist featuring her sit songs “Savage,” “Girls in the Hood,” and “Body.” But the rapper censored her lyrics,...

Exclusive: Tiye and Keisha Mennefee’s audiobook Rifts and Refrains from the latter’s Honey Magnolia Media is being adapted for TV by Attica Locke and Tembi Locke for Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Rifts and Refrains centers on an aspiring Black female writer and musician who discovers a hidden legacy of love, betrayal and music in her estranged grandfather’s past, leading her on a journey of self-discovery and unexpected romance in the heart of Nashville’s country music scene and Memphis, the home of the blues.
“We grew up listening to Charley Pride and Muddy Waters in our grandmother’s house in Texas, and have playlists full of Rhiannon Giddens, Mickey Guyton, Yola, and Brittany Spencer. We know the twin sounds of blues and country and could not be more excited to explore a story that highlights the crosscurrents of these two sounds and cultural institutions in American life.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team once again won the gold in the Olympics thanks in no small part to Simone Biles. Italy won silver in the artistic gymnastics team final, and Brazil won bronze, marking the country’s first-ever medal in this event.
The event was broken down into rotations on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and the floor. Jordan Chiles was the first to get the United States on the board with a 14.400 on the vault. She was then followed by Jade Carey. Despite the fact Carey was sick this week, she scored a 14.800.
Biles then scored an impressive 14.900 during her vault for the U.S. team’s women’s final on Tuesday. That score was from a routine that had a difficulty 5.6 and an execution of 9.3. The beloved athlete stuck the landing with no sign of pain on her left leg, an injury that has...

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were in attendance, cheering on the American quartet. Equally passionate for the team in the arena were Spike Lee, Natalie Portman and Serena Williams. So, when Taylor Swift stood up to applaud her ex for winning the Grammy for Best Album in 2023, beating out heavyweights like Beyoncé, Adele, and Kendrick Lamar in the category. Als Verleih brachte die Kinokette AMC bislang schon Taylor Swift und Beyoncé auf die Leinwände – nun wurde ein weiterer Konzertfilm angekündigt – auch für Deutschland.

Star Trek: Section 31 Trailer: Michelle Yeoh Joins A Secret Starfleet Division In Discovery Spin-Off

Set phasers to Fun! After bagging a long overdue Oscar for her turn(s) as Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle Yeoh is swapping the multiverse to play her Star Trek: Discovery mirror universe character Emperor Philippa Georgiou once again in Olatunde Osunsanmi's Paramount+ original movie Star Trek: Section 31. Front-loaded with a playful warning for "misfit content", the first trailer for the movie — which is set to follow Yeoh's villainous warlord as she joins a black ops division of Starfleet — promises to bring a distinctly different vibe to the almost seventy-year-old sci-fi franchise. Check it out:
We told you the vibe was different! From the Beyoncé 'Formation' needledrop, to Yeoh's Georgiou being called a "bad bitch" by a Starfleet officer, to the Emperor's snazzy-looking wardrobe and acrobatic displays of kickassery, it looks like the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star is having a whale of a time in...

For Vice President Kamala Harris, it’s not just a Brat Summer — it’s also a Hot Girl Summer. Megan Thee Stallion will join Harris for a presidential campaign rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 30th.
Megan confirmed her appearance on Instagram on Monday night. According to Billboard, the rapper is slated to perform at the rally.
Since Joe Biden stepped aside and Harris announced her run for president, the VP has received several high-profile musical endorsements. Most notably, Charli Xcx kick-started a bevy of pro-Kamala memes when she posted that “kamala Is brat,” while Beyoncé granted her permission to use “Freedom” as her campaign theme song.
Megan will stump for Harris ahead of her headlining appearance at Lollapalooza this weekend.

After a two-year hiatus, the 11-member K-pop group, The Boyz, is back touring the U.S., and their excitement is palpable.
“We’re feeling very good,” Kevin, 26, tells USA Today backstage at Radio City Music Hall on July 19. “Last year, we weren’t able to tour North America, but we’re so glad that we’re able to do it this year.”
This tour is particularly special for Eric, who hails from Los Angeles and missed The Boyz’s 2022 U.S. tour due to a health hiatus. “Zeneration II” marks his first time touring the States.
“It kind of feels weird that I’m on it right now; it feels like a dream,” the 23-year-old says.
Members Sangyeon, Jacob, and Juyeon sat alongside Kevin and Eric during the interview. Younghoon, Hyunjae, New, Q, Juhaknyeon, and Sunwoo were absent, getting the final touches for hair and makeup before the concert.

Kesha strongly condemned Republican vice presidential candidate Jd Vance for his remarks about “childless cat ladies” running the country, joining a growing number of celebrities speaking out against the politician’s controversial statements.
The “Tik Tok” singer, approached by paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport, expressed her displeasure with Vance’s comments. “Boo! F–- that man! That’s all I have to say. F–- them all. That’s absolutely sexist,” Kesha said, adding that she plans to support Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
Vance, 39, faced renewed criticism this week after a 2021 Fox News interview resurfaced online. In the clip, the Hillbilly Elegy author questioned how politicians like Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could shape the Democratic Party’s future without having children of their own.

Approximately 500 hundred years ago, we learned that Michelle Yeoh was in talks to star in a spin-off series focused on her character from "Star Trek: Discovery." In January 2019 (approximately 499 years ago), "Star Trek: Section 31" was officially announced as an in-development project for CBS All Access. Since then, CBS All Access has died of old age and been resurrected as Paramount+, and the "Section 31" TV series has become a Paramount+ original movie instead. Now, the first teaser trailer for "Star Trek: Section 31" is finally here.
The original Captain Philippa Georgiou was killed off in the second episode of "Discovery," but Yeoh returned as a Mirror Universe version of the character: the sharply-dressed, gleefully wicked Emperor Philippa Georgiou. This evil Georgiou tagged along when the Discovery crew returned to their original universe, where her lack of morals made her a perfect fit for Starfleet Intelligence's black ops unit, Section 31. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is absolutely dangerous in the trailer for Olatunde Osunsanmi’s “Star Trek: Section 31.” In a clip shared at Comic-Con on Saturday, Yeoh’s Emperor Philippa Georgiou flaunts her talent for evil — and struggles with becoming something else — as Beyoncé’s “Formation” plays in the background.
“Emperor philippa Georgiou,” Omari Hardwick intones, “you’re a tyrant who murdered her own people by the millions… the past always catches up with you.”
Elsewhere in the trailer, Kacey Rohl explains to Yeoh, “31 is Black Ops division. Spy work. Starfleet is here to make sure no one commits murder” and Sam Richardson admits, “We can’t trust you with our lives, but here we go.”
“Someone’s got to keep it lively… right?” Yeoh asks, feigning innocence.
The clip also gave fans the first look at Miku Martineau as the younger version of Philippa Georgiou.

The long-awaited first trailer for Star Trek: Section 31 is finally here, and it definitely brings a fresh vibe to the franchise.
Paramount+ revealed a two-minute look (below) at the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff movie, which stars Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou.
The show is about Georgiou joining a secret “black ops” division of Starfleet. From the official description, when “tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past.”
The trailer strives for a more rebellious tone for the nearly 60-year-old Trek franchise, complete with contemporary music (the trailer is set to Beyoncé’s “Formation”), an onscreen “warning” from Starfleet about its “misfit content,” and title card graphics which break with Trek tradition. At one point an officer tells Georgiou that she’s there to keep her from murdering people, and the Emperor replies,...

We may be four years away from Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Olympics, but if Hollywood is famous for anything, it’s a glitzy, starry early tease. Filming from a Universal Studios soundstage in Studio City, California, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg delivers a welcome to the 2024 Paris Olympics that ties the perfect link between cinema and these historic games. The short, entitled ‘Land of Stories,’ begins with Spielberg walking onto a set with a big blue-screen behind him that eventually transports him to a street corner above the Seine with the Eiffel Tower in the background, all courtesy of his friend George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic.
As Spielberg narrates, with clips of his films and past Olympic games interspersed, he explains the personal importance “telling stories” has for him. In the short, he said, “From the very origins of the idea, The Olympics have always been what you might call,...

Beyonce has just stripped down to a U.S.A. swimsuit for the 2024 Paris Olympics, but she made headlines for a very different look back in 2016. In June of that year, the "Crazy In Love" hitmaker wowed the cameras while enjoying a beachy vacation in Hawaii, and she couldn't have gone more colorful.
Sizzling in a printed leaf and floral-print swimsuit as she channeled luxe island girl vibes, Beyonce wore a flower and lemons crown to match her jewelry, putting on a show-stopping display and impressing fans with her figure. When The Daily Mail published the photos, fans went wild, with many praising the R&b star for her "natural" curves.

Katy Perry‘s “Woman’s World” has been thoroughly trashed online. Some even see it as the California Gurl‘s worst single. Is that true? And what makes it so much different from other female empowerment songs?
Katy Perry’s ‘Woman’s World’ takes an old approach that doesn’t seem to be working
Perry’s discography has some dud singles. “Ur So Gay,” “Swish Swish,” “Bon Appétit,” and “Rise” are all bad songs. At the very least, they have some musical flavor. “Woman’s World,” on the other hand, has a generic dance-pop beat that wouldn’t impress even the most die-hard clubbers. It feels like a lazy cop-out at a time when Perry needs to be writing some of her best work to get back in the spotlight.
Many feminist songs are breakup songs that double as empowerment anthems. In tracks like Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,...

The opening ceremony of the Paris Games is barely over, and already its starting to look a lot like the #Beylympics, at least to Team USA.
Having given Vice President Kamala Harris permission to use her ‘Freedom’ tune for her newly launched Potus campaign, Beyoncé is now flying the flag for Simon Biles, LeBrone James, Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, Caeleb Dressel, Katie Ledecky and all other American athletes competing in France over the next 16 days.
In a video that dropped during NBC and Peacock’s primetime replay of Friday’s Opening Ceremony, the hatted and booted Cowboy Carter superstar gave her ‘YA YA’ hit a revamp for the hometown team. “Get a look at America, y’all,” Beyoncé declared as Biles, Men’s Gymnasts Fredrick Richard and Asher Hong, and others appeared on screen. “These hopes and dreams, these superstars that represent us.”

Team USA knows they have Beyoncé’s support throughout the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
During the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris on Friday, the global superstar introduced the athletes that make up the United States team in a promotional video. Team USA then made their way down the River Seine.
Beyoncé was seen in the footage sporting a red, white and blue bodysuit, accompanied by a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. The singer also named several of the athletes competing for Team USA, including Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky, as “YA YA” from her latest album Cowboy Carter played in the background.
She then continued with a motivational message: “Get a look at America, y’all. These hopes and dreams, these superstars that represent us. The people of this big, bold, beautiful, complicated nation. All rooting together for them.”

Americana music has been in the midst of a huge surge in recent years. The genre went from the realm of older folk musicians to a mainstream force with clear influence on the charts. And with the industry expanding, so is the number of major contenders for Grammys. Let’s take a broad look at this year’s top contenders so far.
There are a couple of especially mainstream contenders we need to address first. Noah Kahan is arguably the biggest Americana artist alive right now, but last year he was ignored in the field and relegated to a single Best New Artist nomination, which he lost to Victoria Monet. There is reason to believe, however, that this year he will finally get some well deserved genre nominations: significantly, Kahan got an important Artist of the Year nomination at the Americana Music Honors and Awards this year, which signals support...

“Lady in the Lake” series creator and showrunner Alma Har’el had a vision for the the Apple TV+ series that differed from the 2019 Laura Lippman on which it’s based — one that focused not just on main character Maddie Morgenstern but on the “lady” of the title. That’d be murder victim Cleo (Moses Ingram), who narrates the seven-episode drama.
Natalie Portman, who is also a producer on the series, stars as Maddie, while Ingram of “The Queen’s Gambit” fame takes on the expanded role of Cleo amid an enhanced focus on Baltimore’s Black community of the 1960s.
“It’s been incredibly challenging to adapt this book, because it’s a book you can’t let go of. It’s gripping, but it does focus much more on Maddie Morgenstern and a lot of very different characters around Baltimore. My wish was to create a two-hander and recreate the world around Cleo,...

Grammys CEO Harvey Mason jr. is making one thing clear to Recording Academy voters: “There is no place in our organization for such bias, grudge-holding, or careless voting.”
The songwriter-producer and executive sent a letter to Academy voters on Friday, reminding them to cast their votes for the 2025 show with a purpose.
“Last Grammy season, I heard a Grammy voter say they hadn’t taken a specific artist seriously since a performance they saw more than ten years ago. I was shocked and disturbed by that. There is no place in our organization for such bias, grudge-holding, or careless voting. It’s about the current year and the quality of the work, period!,” he wrote.
Mason jr. adds, “There should be no other rationale for voting. If you are taking into account an artist’s older work, or their reputation, or race, or gender, what label they are on, who their manager is,...

If you’re as terminally online as I am, you see Tony Hale’s face every day.
The actor best known for “Veep” and “Arrested Development” is a household name for comedy fans, even if he enjoys a degree of anonymity in his day-to-day.
“People are just really nice,” he told IndieWire, along with an anecdote of the previous night when a restaurant hostess shared her appreciation of his work. “But then — my wife is from Alabama — I go to Alabama and no one’s watching or has watched ‘Veep’ or ‘Arrested.’ So it’s not that kind of really high fame.”
It’s the kind of fame that prompts people to shout “Buster!” at him in the street, or character-specific things like “You’ve got two hands” — the kind of fame that comes from being on two heavily-memed shows, at least one of which was all over social media...

When the Grammy-nominated husband-and-wife duo The War & Treaty — who have created their own sound by blending genres like country, soul, Americana and gospel — booked Celebrity Family Feud, they immediately thought of which blood relatives they would invite to the famed game show. But the couple thought: Let’s showcase a family of Black singers in the country and Americana genres.
So, they invited Rissi Palmer, who in 2007 became the first Black woman to reach Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in 20 years; Valerie June, the acclaimed musician who weaves together sounds like blues, country, rock, soul, gospel and Appalachian folk; Dom Flemons, the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist who played in the old-time string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops; and country-hip-hop hybrid Breland. The episode, where they’ll take on Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Earth, Wind & Fire, will air Tuesday at 8 p.m. Et on ABC.

Following up a chart-topping country song with another country banger? Post Malone found the guy for that: Luke Combs. On Friday, the duo released “Guy For That,” Malone’s follow-up to his Morgan Wallen-featuring hit, “I Had Some Help.”
“I’m damn near down to my last dime/I’m pretty good at breakin’ down a heart/But pickin’ up the pieces is the hard part,” sings Malone in the chorus. “She’s searchin’ for someone who’s gonna build it back/But I ain’t got a guy for that.

There’s something special about summer hits, isn’t there? Marketing your song in the summer oftentimes means it will be more memorable to Grammy voters than the slew of songs that get swallowed up at Christmastime on the charts or the early birds that, by December, are kind of erased from our collective memory. A lot of the most nominated artists each year are, perhaps not coincidentally, some of the biggest names that peaked during the warmer months. This summer has given us a few smash hits that you should probably keep in mind for Grammy nominations.

The Grammys’ visual media field honors the best in music made for film, television and other formats. This year’s contenders range from blockbuster soundtracks to more under-the-radar but important material from critically beloved artists.
For Best Song for Visual Media, the race is full of plausible winners. Olivia Rodrigo could take home another Grammy this year here for “Can’t Catch Me Now,” the lead single from the “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” soundtrack. There’s precedent for Rodrigo, as Taylor Swift previously won here for a song from the same franchise, “Safe and Sound” from the original “Hunger Games”; both, however, were snubbed by the Oscars.
Speaking of Oscars, one Academy Award-nominated song that could be a contender here is “It Never Went Away” performed and co-written by Grammy favorite Jon Batiste for his documentary “American Symphony.” Batiste doesn’t always win at these awards,...

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to figure out a way to equate Kamala Harris’ political success with box office numbers.
“Dig this if you will, daddy-o, from Sunday to this morning, the Harris campaign has raised a cool $126 million,” Colbert said on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show.” “That means that Kamala Harris had a bigger opening weekend than ‘Twisters.'”
For comparison’s sake, Lee Isaac Chung’s standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster flick made $80.5 million during its first weekend. “Sorry, Glen Powell,” Colbert continued, taunting the film’s star while showing a shirtless picture of the celebrity. “Maybe you’d be more popular if you hit the gym, tubbo.” But the late night host didn’t stop there as he was seemingly struck by a great idea.
“Wait, hold on, no more ideas, this is it. Glen Powell becomes Harris’ running mate,” Colbert said to the applause of his studio audience.

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet are known for keeping their romance out of the spotlight. While Jenner knew all about her on-again, off-again romance with Travis Scott, she and Chalamet have taken a quieter approach since their romance began in 2023. Now, a source alleges that the couple is “heading” for “marriage.”

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet initially seemed like an unlikely match, but they’re proving that opposites attract. Fans know Jenner as a reality star thanks to the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family. But Chalamet has roots in acting in an eclectic mix of films. A source told The Sun in July 2024 that the couple has stayed busy with work commitments.

Fans know Jenner as a reality star thanks to the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family. But Chalamet has roots in acting in an eclectic mix of films. The couple’s romance hit the tabloids in April 2023. By September 2023, they made their public debut with a makeout at Beyoncé’s concert.
A source told The Sun in July 2024 that the couple has stayed busy with work commitments.

Beyoncé hasn’t endorsed Kamala Harris for president yet, but she did swiftly approve the Vice President’s request to use “Freedom” as the walk-in song for her newly launched presidential campaign.
CNN reports that Harris, who walked out to the Lemonade song on Monday night prior to giving her first official speech since Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race, was granted approval from Beyoncé “just hours” before Harris made her grand entrance.
Beyoncé is notoriously strict about clearing her music for use, especially for politicians. However, she has a track record of endorsing Democrats, having supported the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020, Hillary Clinton in 2016, and Barack Obama before that.
Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, on the other hand, has already endorsed Kamala Harris, posting a photo of the two together on Instagram and writing, “New, Youthful, Sharp , , energy !!!! Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That...

Beyoncé has given Kamala Harris permission to use her song ‘Freedom’ during the Vice President’s presidential campaign, according to a CNN report.
Harris walked out to the song during her first official visit to her campaign headquarters yesterday evening in Delaware. Per CNN, Harris’ team got quick permission to use it from Beyoncé’s reps to use it throughout the campaign.
Beyoncé keeps close control over clearance around her music, but the approval suggests Harris has her backing in the race to compete with Donald Trump for the presidency, which broke out when President Joe Biden confirmed he would not be running for a second term.
CNN noted Beyoncé — full name Beyoncé Knowles-Carter — is yet to officially endorse Harris, but has backed several Democratic candidates in the past, notably singing the national anthem at President Obama’s second-term inauguration in 2013, and actively backing Hilary Clinton in her failed bid...
