Red Hulk will officially debut in Captain America: Brave New World. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie revealed not only Harrison Ford's Red Hulk but also Giancarlo Esposito's undisclosed mystery villain.

Although set photos and leaked merchandise for Brave New World had previously spoiled that Red Hulk would appear, Marvel Studios had not confirmed the character's involvement in the fourth Captain America movie until today. Red Hulk is the superpowered alter ego of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who will be portrayed by Harrison Ford in Brave New World following the death of the character's original performer, William Hurt, in 2022. In the trailer, which also cheekily references the recasting, Red Hulk is shown catching Captain America's shield and slamming it into the ground, suggesting that a fight between the two characters will occur at some point in the movie.

Esposito says fans will be excited by what his character brings to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Giancarlo Esposito's Mystery Villain Revealed

The Brave New World trailer also offered MCU fans their first official look at Esposito's mystery villain, who was added to the movie in May 2024 during reshoots. At the time of writing, Marvel Studios has not revealed who Esposito is playing in the movie, although rumors are claiming he has been cast as George Washington "G. W." Bridge. Introduced in X-Force #1 in 1991 by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld, G. W. Bridge is a former mercenary and high-ranking agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who is skilled at hand-to-hand combat and firearms. Strengthening the casting rumor is Liefeld himself, who shared a screengrab of Esposito's character on the social media site X with the simple caption, "Cool."

Besides Ford and Esposito, Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America. This will be Mackie's first time leading a Captain America movie since his character, Sam Wilson, assumed the mantle of the Star-Spangled Man in the series finale of the Disney+ limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While plot details remain largely under wraps for the fourth Captain America entry, the movie is expected to serve as a spiritual sequel to The Incredible Hulk, bringing back Liv Tyler's Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson's Samuel Sterns/The Leader for the first time since the 2008 movie.
