Simone Biles & Team USA Women’s Gymnastics Gold Medal Lead Big Tuesday Olympics Audience For NBCU
Image
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team led a big day for Team USA at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, which translated to a huge audience for NBCUnversal’s platforms.

Tuesday saw a total audience delivery of 34.7 million viewers across NBC, Peacock and the company’s other digital platforms, according to data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.

That’s nearly double the 18.4M that tuned in for the opening Tuesday of the Tokyo Olympics — though that shouldn’t be a surprise, because by now it’s clear that interest is up across the board for this year’s Summer Games.

Simone Biles made a victorious comeback during the women’s gymnastics team final alongside Suni Lee, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, and Hezly Rivera.

The Team USA gymnasts brought home the gold medal, besting silver-medalist Italy by nearly six points. It was quite the feat for the team, and for NBCU,...

Simone Biles Rising Doc Series Follows Her Journey Back to the Olympics
Image
Gymnast Simone Biles returned to the international stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic (see more of her spectacular floor routine at go.olympics.com/watch). On July 30, Biles and the U.S. gymnastics team won gold, putting Biles back on top — but before the top, there was Simone Biles Rising.

The world was shocked when Biles withdrew from numerous events during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics — especially considering the fact that she was the clear front-runner for several gold medals. However, at the same time, Biles was struggling with her mental health. Rather than push herself to the brink, she decided to withdraw from the competition. Four years later, Biles has unfinished business, and Netflix documentary Simone Biles Rising captures here journey back to the Olympic stage.

Simone Biles Completes Her ‘Redemption Tour’ at Paris Olympics — Winning Gold While Focusing on Her Mental Health
Image
At the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles captured the one thing greater than gold — she seemingly reclaimed her joy.

Biles was already the greatest gymnast — male or female — in history, with seven Olympic medals (four gold) and 30 World Championship medals. But, at the Paris Olympics, she had another goal: to compete on her terms and enjoy every moment.

And enjoy it she did — when it was announced early Tuesday that women of Team USA gymnastics were golden again, Biles quite literally jumped for joy. Then, she streamed through the arena carrying a giant American flag so she and her teammates Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee and Hezly Rivera could pose for photographers. (The team win pushed Biles past Shannon Miller to claim the crown as the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time.)

“We’re super excited,” Biles told Olympics broadcasters, speaking on behalf of the team just after the medal ceremony.

Through the first three full days of the games, NBCU is averaging 34.5 million viewers across all of its linear networks and digital platforms for its primary telecasts. The ratings figures include both what it calls “Paris Prime” — 2-5 p.m. Et in the United States, when a host of medal events air live — and the U.S. primetime telecasts.

Paris Olympics Finds Groove With City Coming Back To Life As Opening Ceremony Lockdown Is Lifted & Sun Replaces Rain
Image
What a difference 24 hours makes.

After a washed-out opening ceremony and solid rain for most of Saturday, the Paris Olympics has finally gotten into its stride with blazing sunshine bringing out the best of the French capital.

Outside of the tournaments, one of the main attractions is the 30-meter-high Olympic cauldron, with a seven-meter diameter ring of fire.

Created by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur, it hangs from a golden balloon floating some 60 meters above the ground in the Tuilerie Gardens, between Place de la Concorde and The Louvre Museum.

Sunday saw sightseers flock to the gardens to catch site of the flame. It is possible to see the cauldron from afar,...

How Simone Biles’ Short Height Gave Her an Advantage in Gymnastics

People who are shorter than average often face teasing about their height, such as being used as an armrest or hearing, “How’s the weather down there?” However, in certain industries, being small is advantageous. A prime example is Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.

Benefits of Being a Short Gymnast

While many contact sports, such as basketball, favor taller athletes, gymnastics is a discipline where shorter stature provides a distinct advantage.

Shorter gymnasts benefit from a more favorable weight-to-power ratio, enabling them to conserve energy and more easily propel their smaller bodies through the air with precision and grace.
