Todd McFarlane Productions has announced the forthcoming comic book series Knights vs. Samurai, a captivating new series written by fan-favorite actor David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), with art by Federico Mele, and colors by Ulises Arreola. This thrilling, new ongoing series will be published by Image Comics and launch this September. Knights vs. Samurai follows the journey of Sir Charles Ward (known as ‘The Dragon Butcher'), who is a knight grappling with self-doubt and grief while leading a legion of royal warriors on a noble mission. Celebrated for his knighthood and leadership, The Dragon Butcher embarks on a quest to a mysterious island in the Far East. Accompanied by a diverse group of fighters—including a giant and two clerics—he seeks vengeance against the savage monsters responsible for ambushing a group of English missionaries. However, upon arrival, Sir Charles discovers a startling truth—the so-called “savage monsters” are a regiment of highly skilled warriors unlike any he has ever encountered. “A lifetime of fascination with Japanese and English historical warrior culture led me to this incredible moment," said Dastmalchian. "My love of Eastern and Western mythology, fantasy and horror all swirl together in this story which explores the questions I want to ask about how our society works (and what doesn’t work!). Under the guidance of the great Todd McFarlane, I have been partnered with the incredible Federico Mele who has manifested a magnificent, brutal and beautiful world of broadswords, katana, dragons, and more!” Mele added: “Bringing David’s amazing scripts to life with my drawings has been an adventure! I love these characters so much and often I feel as though I’m living the journey with them. What makes this even more epic? Doing it for the label McFarlane Productions!” Knights vs. Samurai #1 Cover A by Francesco Mattina (Lunar Code 0724IM270) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, September 25 with the retail price of $2.99. The Final Order Cutoff deadline for comic shop retailers is Monday, September 2. Knights vs. Samurai is also available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

LOGAN CO-WRITER SHARES THOUGHTS ON DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
08/18/24 @ 1:01 pm EST
Source: IGN | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
One of the big concerns for Deadpool & Wolverine was to not desecrate the well earned ending in the 2017 film Logan. For many fans, the film had the perfect end for Hugh Jackman’s story arc through the Fox films. So how did Michael Green, the co-writer of Logan feel about the new film and more specifically the opening scene? He told IGN, “People had warned me ahead of time and I was like, ‘I think I know what’s gonna happen.’ And I did not know! I didn’t know they were gonna go that far.” He’s referring to Deadpool using he remains of Logan as weapons against the TVA agents all while set to the NSYNC song, Bye Bye Bye. Green took it very well, saying, “You weren’t meant to take seriously that they were, like, digging him up, and that was really him. It felt less like they were trying to change the ending of Logan as they were contending with not feeling that they wanted to make a movie as good as they felt Logan was, which is a huge compliment! I felt like it was nothing but complimentary.” What Green was really grateful for was that they didn’t take any digs at another film he had co-written that stared Ryan Reynolds… 2011’s Green Lantern. “You know what I appreciate even more was no Green Lantern jokes because I was partly responsible. You gotta wear it with a badge of honor!” Overall Green like the new film, “It was such a good time. I mean, when we saw it in a full theater, people went bananas to everything. It’s great. It’s a great franchise, like, more, please!”D & W
KRIPKE TEASES 'LOTS OF DEATHS' IN FINAL SEASON OF THE BOYS

Source: Total Film | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
What can you expect from the final season of The Boys? Well, according to series creator Eric Kripke, “there will probably be lots of death.” The fifth season is currently in production and will be the last for this hit series and Kripke told Total Film: “There’s no guarantee of who’s gonna survive because we don’t have to keep them for another season, so you can have really shocking, bit things happen all the time. And so, as the writers, as we’re starting to cook it up, we’re really enjoying that.” He acknowledges that the pressure is on to deliver a really good ending for the series. “So many series finales suck, and it’s really hard to land the plane. I am very grateful to Amazon for giving me the opportunity to end it on our own terms, but for sure, I feel lots and lots of pressure to end it well. Because I think if we can stick the landing, then people will be like, ‘That’s a great show!’ But if we s#!t the bed, people will say, ‘Oh, it was a good show, but the s#!t the bed.” Though this will be the series finale, the franchise will continue with spinoffs like Gen V and the recently ordered Vought Rising.Homelander
INDY'S FEDORA GOES UP FOR AUCTION

One of the most iconic hats in film history went up for auction this weekend and fetched a pretty penny. The brown felt fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom back in 1984 sold for an incredible $630,000. The auction contained various movie props from franchises like Indy, Star Wars, Harry Potter and James Bond. The auction house said that this specific hat, which was created for the film, was worn during additional photography at George Lucas’ visual effects facilities. One could only imagine what the fedora from Raiders of the Lost Arc might go for.   Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE TOP GROSSING R-RATED FILM OF ALL-TIME

Deadpool & Wolverine has passed Joker to become the top-grossing R-rated film in movie history. Maybe Deadpool IS Marvel Jesus? On its 23rd day of release, the latest film from Marvel Studios hit $1.086 billion worldwide, surpassing the $1.078 billion of Todd Phillip’s 2019 film which is getting its own sequel in October. These are also the only 2 R-rated films to ever break the billion-dollar mark. It’s also the second film this year to do so, with Disney’s Inside Out 2 being the first, now sitting at $1.558 billion. Studio head, Kevin Feige, released a statement saying: “Thanks for making Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie the biggest of all time. It’s fantastic to see that audiences are loving this movie as much as we all loved making it. All those conversations were worth it!”dead
HENRY SELICK HIDES JACK SKELLINGTON IN ALL HIS FILMS

You never forget your first. At least that’s the case for director Henry Selick. In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, the director who began his film career with The Nightmare Before Christmas in 1993, has admitted to sneaking a Jack Skellington Easter Egg into all of his movies since. Or at least he says you “might find” them but can’t legally say they are definitely there (*wink*). Examples of this include the breakfast scene in 2009’s Coraline when the Other Mother cracks an egg into a bowl and the yolk makes a familiar face. In 1996’s James and the Giant Peach, there’s a captain of a gang of skeletal pirates who looks like Jack and is even called Skellington, and you might want to pay close attention during the credits for 2022’s Wendell and Wild. Now this gives me an excuse to go back and rewatch 2001’s Monkeybone to see what I can find.Jack Skellington
ALIEN ROMULUS DIRECTOR HAS AN IDEA ON HOW TO DO A NEW AVP FILM

Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Fede Alvarez, director of the new Alien: Romulus, is open to the idea of doing a new Alien vs Predator movie, but with a twist. He would want to approach it in a similar way as Quentin Tarantino did with From Dusk Til Dawn… which was to get half the film directed by Robert Rodriguez. And the directing partner he has in mind is Dan Tratchenberg, who helmed the 2022 film Prey, a prequel to the Predator franchise. The reality of it depends on how well Romulus does in theaters, which is looking pretty good with a $40 million opening, the second largest for the franchise after 2012’s Prometheus took in $51 million. The previous two AvP films came out in 2004, making $177.4 million, and Requiem in 2007 making $130.2 million. While these aren’t the types of numbers that get people excited today, twenty years ago these films were very profitable for the studio.Romulus
TANANARIVE DUE, KELSEY RAMSAY TRANSFORM WEREWOLF GENRE IN 'HORIZON EXPERIMENT: MOON DOGS'
08/16/24 @ 10:15 pm EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Legendary writer and the "Octavia Butler of horror" Tananarive Due (The Reformatory, The Keeper), who has earned an American Book Award, NAACP Award, Shirley Jackson Award, and Los Angeles Times Book Prize, amongst many accolades, has teamed up with rising star Kelsey Ramsay (Dark Spaces: Good Deeds)—one of the most sought-after artists in comics—to create the lycanthrope-centered thriller The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs. Marking Due’s first solo full-length writing project in comics, as well as Ramsay’s first Image Comics series, the horror one-shot features stunning colors by José Villarrubia and sharp letters by Jeff Powell. Hitting shelves in November, Moon Dogs is the third comic in The Horizon Experiment series of one-shots, all centering on original protagonists from marginalized backgrounds set in a popular genre, led by Eisner and Harvey Award-winning The Good Asian and Infidel creator Pornsak Pichetshote. Co-edited by Pichetshote and award-winning editor Will Dennis (Somna, Gideon Falls), The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs follows a Black family of lycanthropes of East African descent—who call themselves Moon Dogs—as older sister Nala, her parents, and her boyfriend try to protect her teen brother Kai as he gets caught in the middle of a burgeoning war between a savage pack of werewolves and the Miami police force. After a violent attack, Miami locals are starting to learn that werewolves are not just a myth, and Nala’s family—who are minorities within a minority—find themselves drawn into a very dangerous situation. The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs explores themes of privilege, power, and oppression, highlighting sharpened conflicts over identity and community in society, told through the lens of a werewolf story. Like the other titles in The Horizon Experiment, this one-shot serves as the equivalent of a pilot for a creator-owned series, with the potential of continuing should there be demand for more. Along with an original cover by Ramsay and Villarrubia, the issue will feature variant covers by Eisner Award-winning artist Tula Lotay, part of a series of connecting variant covers across all five Horizon Experiment one-shots. “As a writer who is known for novels and short stories—and who has written screenplays—delving into comics has been the best of both worlds: granting me the immediacy and freedom to tell stories my way, and the benefit of working with talented collaborators to bring the images to life on the page,” said Due. “Moon Dogs is an homage to my roots in Miami, where I grew up and worked as a newspaper reporter. Anyone who has been to Miami knows that its eclectic population is the perfect home for undercover werewolves—like, OF COURSE.” Continued Due: “With great guidance from my editors, Pornsak and Will, I wanted to tell a story of what it feels like to feel doubly marginalized—and also how we can learn to exercise power without being corrupted by it. The great thing about comics, as in Hollywood, is that the script is only the starting point for the story, so seeing the thrilling illustrations by Kelsey Ramsay and the great artistic team is like getting a movie adaptation in record time. I'm so excited to share it! “It wasn't difficult deciding whether I wanted to be a part of The Horizon Experiment. An innovative and inspiring group of creators that are undertaking something original and exciting, you say? It was a fast yes for me. Tananarive’s vivid and character-rich Moon Dogs script solidified that decision too—it made me feel like I was right there in Miami hunched between the rival werewolf clans,” said Ramsay. “It was so much fun and such a pleasure to work on. I'm so happy this fresh take on lycanthrope horror was created by Tananarive and supported by powerhouse editors Pornsak and Will. It came together with incredible collaborators José doing colours and Jeff doing letters. It's an honour to be a part of this project.” "I'm jealous of readers discovering Tananarive and Kelsey's work for the first time. Tananarive’s latest novel was praised by no less than Stephen King and now she's bringing her uniquely intimate mythology building skills and lyrical prose to comics,” said Pichetshote. “Meanwhile, in a very short time, Kelsey has rocketed up every comics editor's radar to the degree you'll be seeing her in non-stop high-profile projects soon. So, watching these two combine their awesome talents to create something distinctly unique has been an utter delight. I can't wait for readers to discover the world of Moon Dogs."

The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 20:
