Level up your weekend lunch or snack by combining tasty pizza toppings with a crispy crusted grilled cheese. This Pizza Grilled Cheese will leave your taste buds asking for more!

Pizza Grilled Cheese

I don't know why I haven't thought of this sooner. I love combining foods and coming up with fun new 'mashups'. Like Pizza Grilled Cheese. And Palak Paneer Fries. And Everything Soft Pretzels.

Recipe mashups are so much fun for everyday meals but also great for entertaining - people love to talk about food! (It's not just me, right?)

Easy to find, flavorful products like the ones fromMargherita® Meats make entertaining and weeknight snacks easy.

Pizza Grilled Cheese

This recipe is not only super delicious – it's pizza and grilled cheese, so obviously its tasty, right? It's simple to shop for and make as well! If you're having this on the weekend, then those two little facts will make you very happy. All you need are 5 ingredients and about 10-15 minutes of total cook time. I used Margherita Genoa Salami® and Margherita Pepperoni® for this recipe. It's so easy to find at my local Walmart – it's right in the deli section. They have a few more products as well if you're looking to try other snack meats.

I also used Sourdough bread and pizza sauce (My Easy Pizza Sauce is perfect for this, but storebought is also a good shortcut!). I chose mozzarella cheese slices instead of shredded for this sandwich, to make it easier to spread the pizza sauce.

You'll also need a small bit of butter for grilling the sandwiches.

How to Serve this Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The combination of the tangy, herby pizza sauce, hot melty cheese, crispy sourdough bread and the spices in the Margherita Genoa Salami and Pepperoni make this sandwich one we're all craving again already. Using high quality and great tasting products makes me happy to serve this to my family. These would also be great cut up into squares for entertaining. I've also used their thick-cut pepperoni on pizza for my son and he loves it.

One more thing - this would be fantastic for Game Day snacks too!

I serve my sandwich with some veggie chips and ranch to dip the sandwich in - I love dipping my pizza in my Homemade Ranch Dressing. This would also be good with carrot sticks or a salad - both are great with ranch dressing too.

Pin this recipe to your snack board for later!

How to Make a Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich

This is so easy! The key to this sandwich is to use a non-stick pan. (If you have a cast iron pan and it's seasoned well enough that it's non-stick, it'll work for this, just keep an eye on the heat)

First, butter each piece of bread. I'm making two sandwiches here. Each piece of bread takes about a tablespoon or so of butter. (Or mayo!)

Flip one buttered slice of bread, buttered sides together onto the other slice of bread.

Pizza Grilled Cheese

Spread a tablespoon or two of pizza sauce on the bread. The amount you need will depend on the size of your bread. Place the mozzarella cheese slices on top of the pizza sauce.

Now add the meat. I used both salami and pepperoni, but you could use either if you prefer one over the other. I used 5 slices of the Genoa Salami and only 4 of the pepperoni because it's a thick-cut pepperoni.

Pizza Grilled Cheese

Add more mozzarella on top of that, and then more pizza sauce. Mmmmm, flavor all the way through!

Now heat your frying pan and lift the top piece of bread (the one with all the fillings on it) and place it in the pan. Place the other slice of bread on top of that, buttered side up! Cook for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is toasty, crispy and browned and the cheese is melty and delicious.

Questions About Making Grilled cheese sandwiches

What pizza sauce do you use?

I use my own. It's my easy 5 Minute Pizza Sauce. Store-bought tastes good here too!

The only way to make a true grilled cheese sandwhich. I like mine with kraft american cheese. Also if I am in the mood I will add bacon or a tomato to it.
