The character of Lobo is one of DC Comics' gnarliest anti-heroes whose nearly immortal powers rival that of Kal-El aka Superman. As as a bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, Lobo will hunt anyone, anytime, anywhere for the right price -- even if it gets him into big trouble.

Since his initial inception, Lobo has committed his fair share of both good and bad deeds, ranging the gamut of good hero and awful villain. What are some of these acts, and just how good or bad are they? Here are five times Lobo was a good hero and five times he was an awful villain.

10 Hero: Joined The Justice League

In the "Hereafter" episode of Justice League, Lobo actually joins the Justice League... and then proceeds to promote himself to the position of leader, of course. Despite this, Lobo did indeed become one of the good guys -- even if he tried to make the enterprise all about himself.

The event occurs when a group of supervillains attack Metropolis, looking to take revenge on Superman. After a raging fight where it seems the man of steel is killed, the villains continue their attack on the city, battling it out with the other members of the Justice League. Enter Lobo, who steps through a wall of fire and quickly dispatches the villains.

9 Villain: Fought Superman To Win A Bet

During the Draaga arc, Lobo enters a certain space bar where he overhears a pair of aliens talking about the pending battle between Superman and Draaga himself (while taking wagers on who would win). Lobo naturally enters the conversation, citing that he could take out the man of steel without a fuss.

After getting Lobo severely drunk, the aliens coerce the Czarnian into putting his money where his mouth is, resulting in the main man traveling to the Fortress of Solitude in order to take on the last son of Krypton once and for all. Who wins? Let's just say Superman fakes his own death just to escape.

8 Hero: Defeated Kalibak

Kalibak smashing rock into rubble in DC Comics.

Speaking of the Justice League, during his appearance in the episode "Hereafter", one of the supervillains terrorizing Metropolis is none other than the eldest son of Darkseid himself: Kalibak. But when Lobo enters the scene during the height of the second battle, he makes quick work of the apokolipian.

Using a pair of parked cars as bludgeoning devices, Lobo claps Kalibak like a pesky mosquito, hurling the brute into a pile of wreckage. Upon defeating the horde of villains, Lobo forces Darkseid's heir to cry uncle in humiliating fashion.

7 Villain: Drove His Mother Insane

At birth, Lobo was anything but a peaceful child. After biting the fingers off of the nurse who delivered him, Lobo began demonstrating even stranger and more violent tendencies as a youth.

As such, the dark vibes emitting from Lobo's soul began affecting those around him, including his very own mother. As the main man himself puts it, she went insane after just looking at him... Not that he cared in the least.

6 Hero: Rescued Space DolphinsLobo Space Dolphins

If there's a soft spot in Lobo's heart, it's for one thing and one thing only: Space Dolphins. 'Fishies,' as the insane Czarnian calls them, are a species of dolphin-like creatures that inhabit the vacuum of space. They are intelligent and can communicate with other sentient creatures, of which Lobo has been in close contact since childhood.

Lobo is especially sentimental about space dolphins and will go to great lengths to protect them at any cost. One example of this occurs when Lobo teams up with Black Canary to save the celestial porpoises from Tribb, a villain using the dolphins as bate to capture the main man. The plan, of course, doesn't work out too well for Tribb as Lobo makes the villain pay dearly for his sins against galactic wildlife.

5 Villain: Committed Genocide Against His Own Race

Yes, Lobo actually erased his entire species from existence once, demonstrating that he holds no allegiance to any person, place, or thing, least of all his home tribe. Born as a member of the Czarnians from the planet Czarnia, Lobo belongs to a race that not only holds regenerative powers but can only be killed by members of its own species.

Naturally, this means Lobo needed to eliminate any threat to his existence -- even if it meant murdering off his own kin. After the deed was done, Lobo commented that he committed the act as a science experiment (of which he gave himself an A+).

4 Hero: Helped Defeat Lady Styx

After the events of 2006's Infinite Crisis, Lady Styx places a bounty on the heads of heroes Starfire, Animal Man, and Adam Strange -- all of whom have been left stranded in space. There, they come across the insane Czarnian himself, Lobo, who has recently joined Styx's religion and become the leader of her church. But after some coaxing, the heroes conscript the main man into helping them defeat the supervillain.

Pretending to be making good on the bounty, Lobo brings the heroes before the Lady, springing their trap upon her once inside. With Lobo's help, the heroes defeat Styx and claim the Emerald Eye.

3 Villain: Devoured A City

In a demonstration that proves Lobo to be one of the most insane characters in comicsland, Lobo once devoured an entire city in a feat of unparalleled power. That's correct, an city!

This is no exaggeration as the Czarnian seemingly managed to crush trillions of tons of steel, stone, and life matter into a single, gobstopper-size ball...then eat it.  Down the hatch in a single bite, the destroyer of worlds cometh...

2 Hero: Saved A Planet From Brainiac

Lobo in the New 52

During the events of R.E.B.E.L.S. Lobo finds himself between a rock in a hard place. Since his Space Church is low on funds, the main man joins Vril Drox in an effort to help battle Brainiac on Planet Colu (for a large sum of cash). Using the red ring of the Lantern Corps, Lobo descends onto Colu and enters the action.

However, despite his best efforts, Brainiac manages to escape along with Pulsar Stargrave. Nonetheless, Lobo did indeed save Colu and the people thereupon, making him a hero in his own right.

1 Villain: Killed Santa Claus

Believe it or not, this actually happned in the comics. Lobo was hired by the Easter Bunny to take out Kris Kringle himself, eliminating Easter's competition and asserting his place atop the hierarchy of holiday mascots.

So what does Lobo do? Why take the case, of course! Money is, after all, money, and the only color the main man sees is green. After taking the job, Lobo tracks Saint Nick down and beats him to death -- using strength enough to destroy even the man of steel.
