I cant sit through The Thing (from Another World) all the way until the End without falling asleep or changing the tv station to another movie....not Just, which is a terrific commentary that film werent letter box until after 1953 BUT MOST importantly, to Moi, ofcourse, is that the FILM HAS THE STYLelized fierceness ROMANTIC ofcourse, ofcourse, very very add unto into the plot itself, very tragic classical Prince rescues Princess type story line plot with Prince and Hot Dame, ofcourse, ofcourse, and to even begin to think that a THING FROM ANOTHER CITY would cause harm to the pretty young thing, well, i cant bare to sit and watch these fierceness films of yesteryear...now if you can imagi nge what hollyweird has done to these films SO YOU CAN SIT TO WATCH THE THING FROM ANOTHER PLACE IN THE CITY well, the John Carpenteres blech thang, thats tooo much colored television let alone flm quality Noir on the Blech is wel....
BlECH!!!!!

Subject: Pity about this altered aspect ratio
Subject: Pity about this altered aspect ratio
This particular video is showing an iconic 50s thriller in a version that is stretched horizontally so that characters look wider than they should. I prefer classic films in their original format, not tampered with like this. Black vertical bars are good. Wouldn't any fan want to see this flick as it was originally shown in movie houses and drive-in theaters back in '51? Movies weren't widescreen before 1953 anyway.

THE MOVIE
I saw for the first time when I was about six years old.
We lived in an old wooden house and I was alone at home.
I was scared and excited, but I had to watch the movie until the end. Still a great movie! A true classic.
Guided me to become a fan of sci-fi, aliens and the x-files.

Subject: JC Version Not a Remake
Subject: JC Version Not a Remake
Just to keep the historical record in order (this is the IA, after all)--- the "John Carpenter Version" of THE THING is not in any sense a remake, a re-imagination, or a re-do: Carpenter used the original 1938 source material ("Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell Jr., under the pen name Don A. Stuart) and was very true to it with 1982's THE THING.
Meanwhile, the 1951 Arness version is quite dissimilar to the 1938 source material, apart from maybe the use of the arctic world and a couple other items.
If you've ever read "Who Goes There?" then you know it was way ahead of its time. Oddly so. And yes, it includes the blood plasma "heat test" among the other specifics that Carpenter faithfully integrated into his 1982 movie.
This Anrness movie, its charms aside, is more like an aberration of "Who Goes There?" than an adaptation.

..This movie laid the ground work for some incredible Alien encounters .
A story that would become a classic and would be remade by John Carpenter .
The THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD is well portrayed in acting and scenes that are thrilling .
Special effects are well done and the whole feel of the movie is smooth throughout !
Take a step back in time , enjoy this Classic Sci-Fi .
As mentioned ... keep watching those skies !
