Hill House has stood for about 90 years and appears haunted: its inhabitants have always met strange, tragic ends. Now Dr. John Markway has assembled a team of people who he thinks will prove whether or not the house is haunted.

Honest
I liked the film for its honesty, unlike how people are today. It seems far more things are covered up in fake. People are expected to walk to the ends of the earth for the sake of fake, I like how this film doesn't expect that of people.

My favorite scary movie
I’m 79 and first saw this movie with a dear friend in my 20s. We damn near passed out from fright. Robert Wise outdid himself with this one. And, over 60 years, this movie has held up. I’ll keep the lights on tonight! “Ohmigod Theo….whose hand was I holding??” The hair is up onmy neck now!

Horror for the intelligent.
I love this movie. No need for computer animated monsters or ghosts. The story itself puts your mind into it.
The actors played their parts well. Like them or hate them they did their jobs well.

Most frightening movie ever
I saw this in 1963,at age 15.It turned out to be extremely scary and beautifully presented in b&w.The look of it was ominous, but the sounds were terrifying.I enjoyed every minute of it.Years later,at age 24,I attempted to watch it alone.I failed. But now,at 74 I am going to give it another go.. my third.I have managed to watch it from start to finish just once, and have come back for more.Only one other movie has frightened me as much, and that is"The Changling," 1974,with George C. Scott. If you love scary movies, these two ate the best.No blood,no guts, just stark horror. Enjoy!
