Description
Hey, everyone. Here's something special: New movie poster art featuring Star Wars (1977) aka Episode IV: A New Hope. Star Wars is my favorite movie. No other film has influenced me as much as this iconic classic.
At first, it was not my intention to create fanart for a Star Wars movie poster; There's so much out there. A lot of different art and styles.
Then I watched a documentary recently about the history of movie poster art, titled “24x36: A Movie About Movie Posters” which was a great film. It was from 2016, yet I hadn't seen it before. I had no idea that there was such a big movement involving original movie poster art from artists with different visuals. I mean, I knew there were other artists making this kind of art, but I had no idea that it had become such a cool hobby and business. i realized there are lots of businesses and artists that get licensed and specialize in it, conventions, etc. (I just might have to get more involved into my movie poster art. Who knows? It just might turn into something grand).
This abundance of new information influenced me on a greater level than before. So, I said to myself, "If you were to make a Star Wars movie poster, what would you do different from everyone else?" Thus, I embarked on this new illustration, which took about three days to complete. I was going for a more 1930s type movie poster done in my illustration style. Something a bit more subtle without being subtle.
I selected the interrogation scene for its' popularity and random aspect. I wanted to capture the possible moment right after the cell doors closed. I incorporated a "less is more" approach to it. I wanted Darth Vader's shadow to be there giving his menacing presence, despite we don't actually see him in the image. I wanted emotion in Leia's eyes. Definitely concern--and perhaps mixed with a little fear.
I think it turned out well. I definitely like the colors. I wanted to include some of my own touches and style. Even the caption at the top is different. In conclusion, I hope I paid true homage to one of the greatest films created--and may I add, it was a lot of fun!
