The Benz Patent-Motorwagen Number 3 of 1888 - probably the first petrol car brought into England. A three-wheeled vehicle with a horizontal single cylinder motor. This vehicle was used by Bertha Benz for the first long distance journey by automobile (more than 106 km or sixty miles). Without her husband's prior knowledge, she drove 106km to visit her Mother, stopping at Pharmacies en route for fuel and in turn inventing brake pad lining to solve the tricky situation of braking on hills!
